WORLD HEALTH DAY

IPS, Nashik branch will be carrying out various activities on occasion of World Health Day i.e. 7th April 2017 because this year’s theme for the day is “Depression… Let’s Talk!”

Activities Accomplished:

Free Screening of the movie “ASTU – So be it !”

On the evening of 5th April 2016, 6 pm onwards, people flocked towards Parshuram Saikhedkar Natyagurha where IPS, Nashik had organized a free screening of a movie ‘ASTU – So be it’. The auditorium was packed including the balcony. Glued to their chairs, audience remained seated for 3 long hours without a break. This movie is on a psychiatric illness called Dementia wherein person suffers from loss of memory and other executive functions of brain. The screening was followed by open discussion with Veteran Actor and a Psychiatrist himself Dr. Mohan Agashe. The event saw an overwhelming response from common people and many appreciated IPS Nashik for holding such an activity.

Psychiatry Update 2016 CME for IMA Members

IPS Nashik in collaboration with IMA Nashik organized a first of its kind CME for all IMA Members irrespective of specialty at Dr. H S Joshi auditorium IMA Office Shalimar Nashik. The aim was to increase awareness and sensitize medical fraternity about the specialty of Psychiatry and moreover to have communication across specialties. The talks delivered by eight speakers covered topics like ‘Why Psychiatry?’ (Dr. Vilas Chakor), ‘Myths and Attitudes about Psychiatry’ (Dr. Abhijeet Karegaonkar), ‘Welcome to the World of Psychiatry’ (Dr. Mahesh Bhirud), ‘Interview Skills’ (Dr. Jayant Dhake), ‘Mental State Examination’ (Dr. Muktesh Daund), ‘Emergency Psychiatry’ (Dr. Hemant Sonanis), ‘Consultation Liaison Psychiatry’ (Dr. BSV Prasad), ‘Treatment Modalities in Psychiatry’ (Dr. Umesh Nagapurkar). Inaugural address was given by Dr. Aniruddha Bhandarkar (President, IMA Nashik) and Thanks-giving by Dr. Prashant Deore (Secretary, IMA Nashik). Dr. Manas Sule and Dr. Rucha Sule played the Masters of Ceremony in a creative way. Role Plays done by Psychiatrists earned much appreciation from the members and increased the ‘edutainment quotient’ of the event.

Monthly meetings of members with discussion on relevant academic topics are carried out.

Psychiatry updates 2016

Dates – 28th February 2016, Sunday, Time- 8.30 am – 4.30 pm, Venue- Hotel Express Inn, Nashik.

It was first of its kind programme arranged by NPS in coordination with API, Nashik for updating the basic psychiatry knowledge of physicians & clearing their myths & misconceptions about psychiatry; thus helping to increase awareness about psychiatry problems & reducing the stigma. Dr BSV Prasad, Dr Umesh Nagapurkar, Dr Jayant Dhake, Dr Mahesh Bhirud, Dr Hemant Sonanis, Dr Nilesh Jejurkar & Dr Abhijeet Karegaonkar delivered the delightful talks on various aspects of psychiatry. The programme got great feedback from physicians & API members. This effort will definitely help in early diagnosis & prompt as well as accurate treatment of patients.

2nd North Maharashtra Psychiatrists Conference 2016

Dates – 5th & 6th March 2016, Venue – E & G Green Valley Resort, Trimbakeshwar, Nashik.

It was again a great effort by NPS to hold 2nd consecutive North Maharashtra Psychiatrists conference successfully. Psychiatrists from all north Maharashtra districts attended it enthusiastically. First day had topics like newer treatment modalities in Psychiatry, Medico legal aspects of psychiatry. Dr Sanjiv Kale from Panvel gave interesting inputs on recent development in treatment modalities. While Dr BSV Prasad & Dr Umesh Nagapurkar chaired the discussion session on medico legal aspects of psychiatry. Almost everyone shared their experiences & contributed about how to handle the medico legal problems in psychiatry. Second day was full of clinically important topics. Dr Nakul Vanjari spoke about Drug interactions in psychiatry, while Dr Abhijeet Karegaonkar put forth interesting facts regarding awareness & attitude in physicians about psychiatry. Dr Nilesh Jejurkar & Dr Omkar Joshi shared their experiences relating to legal & clinical aspects of psychiatry. Afternoon session was all about Child & Adolescent Psychiatry. Dr Alka Subrahmaniyam &her team from Nair Hospital conducted very interactive workshop on common childhood problems. Conference concluded with a lecture by Dr Preeti Bakre Pai on managing risky behaviours.

Organized various activities for creating awareness reg mental illnesses. Members like Dr. Sule, Dr. Dhake, Nagapurkar delivered lectures, written articles in newspapers & participated in workshops. On world schizophrenia day, we organized film show & talk by Dr. Moha Agashe. On the occasion of world mental health day, Psychologist from Nair Hospital, Mumbai delivered a talk on “HA KHEL BHAVANANCHA”. Medical college at Adgaon, Nasik also organized awareness program on Mental illnesses in which our members delivered lectures & PG students did a wonderful role play. Recently we handed over hon fellowship of IPS to Dr. Jamkar, VC MUHS.
